Boutique Hotel — Sculpted Microcement Lobby, Cave Suites & Monolithic Floors

A whole-floor renovation finished almost entirely in CALMURA microcement and warm peach-cream limewash — from the sculpted mushroom columns at the reception, through arched corridors, to the cave-mouth suites with their oval mirror cut-outs and wall-to-floor monolithic finish.

The brief was “one material, one colour temperature, every surface”. The studio wanted the entire floor — lobby, corridors, all guest suites — to read as a single carved volume rather than a hotel built room-by-room. Skirting, panel joints and trim were all forbidden. CALMURA was specified as the sole finish system across walls and floors.

The lobby is the headline gesture: the ceiling slumps down into three organic mushroom columns that reach the floor, all built in render and finished in our microcement so the joint between ceiling, column and floor is invisible. Behind the soft-pink reception counter, the wall climbs the same way. The whole ground level uses one continuous microcement pour in our warm-white colourway, with a recessed perimeter shadow gap so the floor reads as a single 1,400 m² plate.

The 30-plus guest suites carry the same logic at room scale. Each suite door is set into a cave-mouth arch, the bathroom partition has an oval mirror cut directly out of the wall, and the microcement floor flows past the bed, under the millwork and out to the picture window. The corridors between suites repeat the warm peach-cream limewash on the upper walls and CALMURA microcement on the floor with recessed LED light lines hidden in the soffit.

CALMURA shipped the full system in two consolidated 40′ HQ containers from Yantian — microcement primer, two-coat microcement powder, water-based PU sealer, the trowels and burnishing pads, plus the limewash for the corridors. Three of our application advisers spent a total of 11 weeks on site working alongside the studio’s plaster crew. VOC across the delivered system tested at < 5 g/L on the per-batch ISO 11890-2 reports that shipped with each container.

Finish stack

What was specified, where it went, and how much of it shipped.

Lobby ceiling, mushroom columns, all corridor & suite floors

Microcement Pro System — warm-white colourway, water-based PU sealer

Two-coat microcement applied over CALMURA microcement primer, then sealed with two coats of water-based PU. One continuous pour line per zone with a recessed perimeter shadow gap. ~ 1,400 m² floor + ~ 480 m² sculpted wall/ceiling.

Corridor walls, all guest-suite walls

Mineral Limewash — peach-cream tint

Two coats applied with a wide block brush, deliberately under-burnished so each suite reads slightly differently in daylight. ~ 1,720 m² of wall area across corridors and 30+ suites.

High-touch wall zones (reception, lift lobbies, bathrooms)

Cera Forte 2K Clear Topcoat — matte

Selectively applied to the lower 1.4 m of high-traffic walls so daily housekeeping cleaning does not burnish the limewash sheen. Specified by the operator after a 30-day mock-up suite.

Bathroom wet zones inside suites

Idraflex Waterproof Membrane — under microcement

Two-coat elastic waterproof membrane applied over the slab and shower walls before the microcement topcoat, for a fully tanked yet seamless wet area.
